Hi
Had a suspicious mole removed last week, as they were removing the mole they dropped it on the floor.
I have my results appointment in 6 weeks and I was just wondering if anyone else had a sample dropped on the floor, and whether it effected the results at all. Also I would like to know what happens if the results come back as inclusive what happens next.
Hi Shazna
As far as I know, my lesion wasn't dropped on the floor between being removed and reaching the pathology laboratories. However I would assume, and it is an assumption, that it wouldn't make any difference as a melanoma would have certain characteristics and, if these are seen, then it's a melanoma and if they're not then it's not.
As for what happens if the results were to be reported as inconclusive then I believe you would be treated as if it is melanoma. I know that sometimes it can be very difficult to tell if a mole is a melanoma or just dysplastic and in these cases I understand that the consensus would be to treat it as if it was to be on the safe side.
However, that's a lot of assumptions, etc and the best person to tell you what would happen if the mole was contaminated or inconclusive will be your consultant when they give you your results.
Hopefully it will turn out to be benign.
