Has anyone else had an snlb on their face and neck and happy to share their experience? I’m frantically trying to find information on recovery but am drawing a blank.

  • Hi

As I can see that you posted this question for the first time 10 days ago, and no one responded with any first hand experience, I thought I'd see if I could help.

If you type 'neck' into the search bar in this group it will bring up previous posts with that word somewhere in the post and you could have a look to see if any of them talk about SLNBs. I had a quick look and the most recent one was posted by  in December. I hope they won't mind me tagging them and, if they're still in this group, they'll see this post and might feel able to reply.

I'm not sure if you're aware but Carole, one of the Macmillan Information Nurse Specialists, has responded to your question about SLNBs and time off work. If you haven't seen it yet clicking here will take you straight there.

I should add that I had a SLNB but mine was from my armpit. I wasn't working, so didn't need to think about taking time off work, but would not have been able to go back for at least a week as I was advised to take things easy for the first week and then gradually get back into my normal routine during the second week.

All the best for next week.

Thank you I’ll have a search. I thought the wait for the op would seem like forever but it’s hurtling towards me at speed!! I’ve told my employer that I’m hoping it won’t be any longer than a week so fingers crossed that’s the case.

My lovely CNS is on holiday which she absolutely deserves. She is back the day before my op so will hopefully be able to give me a clearer idea.

  • Had a slnb just below my cheek on my neck

Recovery of that took about a week and was surprised how little pain I had from it.

I had a wle on the back of my neck and snlb on my neck on Dec 24th. My snlb wound was very neat although it's from under my ear to my Adams Apple. Through time as with most scars the redness will fade I was toldMy wound was glued so the scarring is thin. First wk after the opp there's lots of swelling and stiffness but minimum pain. I actually didn't need any pain relief.  Due to the nature of my work I didn't return till.Jan 13th (work with adults with autism) Hopefully you'll be back sooner. The worst was feeling tired during the first week. I got my results back within 4wks and was told it hadn't spread to the lymph nodes. Cross fingers you get the same results

Hi Geopat. Thank you for sharing your experience. Great news with your results. I’m now 5 days past op and you are absolutely spot on about the tiredness. I have a 2 inch cut on my neck for the slnb which seems to be healing really well. I also had the outside of my ear removed for the wle. The “bad” was removed and then the outside has been stitched back on again. This is very sore and swollen but I’m not surprised. I have been signed off work for 2 weeks which I initially thought was overkill, but I’m not having my stitches removed until 12 days after my op and can now see that 1 week would never have been enough.
I have an appointment booked for 9th April for follow up. Is this when I will get my results or will I get a separate appointment before that do you know? 6 weeks seems such a long time to wait!

I got my snlb and wle on the 24th of Dec and got my results back on the 16th Jan which by chance was the date for my first 3month check up. I'm guessing it depends on the workload of the department how long it takes for results. I initially had 6 areas removed then another 2 on follow up which resulted in a 8 wk wait then a 6 wk wait. I'm also back on the 9th of April for my second 3month check. They're keeping an eye on another two areas that don't look normal. Hope all goes well with your results and recovery.

Forgot to mention I had the follow up appt in the dermatology dept then an appt with the surgeon who gave me the results on the same day.
