Its not easy…. 2 years ago my husband 53 noticed a mole on his head got painful and double in size while he took a shower. Immediately he booked a doctors appointment. The doctor suggested a biopsy…. I knew something was wrong as my husband did not behave the same way. He wasn’t himself at all. He seemed really depressed and cried often which was not like him at all. He also wanted to give up his job without thinking clearly. Luckily he did not! The biopsy came back and there he was diagnosed with stage 3 b melanoma cancer. They had to do an operation to remove his mole on his head and it was quite.a bit of his flesh. Almost a big golf ball chunk out of his head. This year his cancer has progressed to level 4. They have found cancer in his lungs. He was put on immunotherapy. As soon as he reached stage 4 he was put on another drug of immunotherapy which is called nivolumab
Nivolumab is an excellent type of immunotherapy for advance melanoma. He just took 2 dosis of this drug as it was really bad for his intestines. He had a super allergic reaction to it. About 3 weeks ago he noticed another bump on his head… like a golf ball. Hard and it feels like bone….He went to doctor and they took a sample and we still wait to hear back the results. Its really stressful. I sometimes suffer from guilt. Why I did not noticed his mole before hand on his head. But my husband is really tall and I am so short. His hair was also covering his mole. I really hope this new injection for melanoma will come quick. As we are racing with time. The doctors and nurses are so supportive at the Royal marsden and my husband enjoys going to hospital. I find it comforting. Please check out your moles regularly. Any funny looking one can be a sign. Has any one had a similar experience?
Hi Snow white and the dwarfs and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
If you have a look at people's profiles, by clicking on their username, you'll be able to read about their melanoma experience. There are quite a few people who've had a melanoma on their head and there are lots who are on or been on the same immunotherapy as your husband.
really hope this new injection for melanoma will come quick.
I'm interested to know what the injection you mention is. Is this something that you've read about that's currently being trialled?
Good morning x
Thank you so much for your welcoming letter. Its lovely that there is s community out there that really cares and to know there are several out there with the same experience and even melanoma on their heads. I read a bit about your melanoma and experience. Thank you for your diary… it must have been really traumatic. So glad it turned out okay for you in the end with your melanoma. Im so grateful for new friends and thank you so much for reading my post.
Oops I was not very clear when I said injection. ;) I ment the new trial they mentioned on the news of a new cancer vaccine that apparently do wonderful. It apparently got inspired from the “ covid vaccine” and it works the same…. Just need one shot. At moment it is still on trial and will only come out in a years time…. It is called Moderna’s mRNA cancer vaccine. A shot can give a standard melanoma treatment a huge boost.
I hope you will find this helpful.
Im rushing to work now…. Luckily I can surround myself with animals. Then just feeling the serenity of nature. I have learnt to be grateful for just the smallest little things…Every morning my husband brings me coffee. No matter how he feels….. I love him dearly. It did not really sinked in yet….its like im in denial. But reality sometimes takes over. He is my soul mate. Im 39 and wanted to have a baby. I hope this is still possible? Do you know?
Lots love to you x

Hi Zaria
I've just taken a look at the news about Moderna’s mRNA cancer vaccine and it does look very promising. Let's hope it gets approval.
I don't know if the immunotherapy your husband has had affects fertility or not. That might be a good question to post in the Ask A Nurse section of the online community. Just bear in mind that they won't be answering any questions now until 2nd January.
If this is something that you'd like to do, clicking on my link will take you straight there.

Hi Snow White.
Sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis, yes the nivo has great reviews but I like your husband had problems with the ipi and nivo drugs that I got liver hepatitis. Is your husband B-raf positive? If so there are drugs you can take if he is, called Dabrafenib and Tametinib. Don't beat your self up about catching it sooner. We move through life believing all is ok and it will not happen to us. Focus on having a great time now and having as many experiences as you can. I had a 1a mole 4 years ago and last year was diagnosed with stage 4D but after 6 weeks of the Dab and Tram all my tumors have gone. There are positives and successful outcomes so stay positive. Hope all goes well keep us informed.
Greg
