Dr has taken 5 biopsies from large lesion on my calf which has been there for 8 years ( I was told previously it was nothing to worry about) Dr suspects melanoma and said WLE and significant skin graft will probably be required. Absolutely terrified now.
can anyone please let me know what there experience of this is,
thanks
Mine was a long time ago it was my first one I also had one in my neck . I was told it’s unusual to have two so far apart . I had a skin graft . I opted to have local for my op on both . My skin graft failed but it did. heal in a more unsightly way. I’d rather that than a melanoma . I was in Frenchay but that’s gone now . Make sure you go to every check up after that’s important . I still have checks and scans now I am what they call stable . Honestly I was as nervous as you . I also was told mine , in the drs words . I’m not concerned about that . I said well I am . She said let me have another look . . To then I am concerned to . I am very concerned . If I hadn’t pushed it I would have been in a much worse place . I would have left thinking like you it’s ok .
Glad you are getting sorted I was unlucky with my skin graft I am sure yours will be just fine . It sounds like they have caught it in good time . Mine also had been on my leg for years . The one in my neck I hadn’t even gone about ..when I walked in she said I see you’ve come about the one on you neck I said no have I got one on my neck . The cancer nurses know what they are looking for .i wish you all the best keep us updated
Hi Pricilla
It's a scary time but you will get through it
I had a WLE and skin graft and a SLNB over 2 years ago now.
I had regular checks on the graft and luckily it did take, it can be difficult on a foot due to circulation. They took the skin fom the top of my leg, I now have an amusing paler square of skin there. Some people have issues with the donor area healing,I didn't.
The actual skin graft luckily took well for me.It took time for my foot to settle down and for the graft to heal.It isn't pretty but as people say better than a melanoma!.
I apply moisturiser twice a day even now, it is now much paler, skin coloured, not red or pink and has filled out.It was a bit hollow to start with.
I still have regular checks but I am getting on with my life and I am really grateful.Take care xx
I had a WLE, skin graft and SLNB at the beginning of Feb this year. The WLE was on my lower shin, with the donor site being the opposite thigh. I had no problems with the donor site, that healed well and gave me little discomfort. I was unlucky with the WLE site. It was painful for weeks, the graft died, the wound began to hypergranulate and I had three infections at the site. But, the body is an incredible thing and it is now pretty much healed.
The one thing I would say is, never be afraid to speak up for yourself. If you have questions, no matter how silly they seem, ask them and always push for answers. Don’t be afraid of challenging medical staff if you feel they’re not listening to you. It’s your body and you know it best.
