Worried

Hi, I'm in my early 20’s and noticed a mole on my back itching a couple of months ago. I was in the process of moving house and GP so took a while to arrange an appointment. The itching seems to be around the mole rather than the mole it’s self but it’s difficult to localise. Not sure if it has changed physically as it is on my back and not something I’ve ever noticed. Going to GP tomorrow and hoping to get a referral to specialist. The worrying thing is, on Thursday I started to have back pain when breathing in and a heaviness in my chest. This has persisted for 3 days and hasn’t gotten any better. I have noticed a couple of the lymph nodes on my neck feel swollen too. I know it sounds like I am dramatically jumping to conclusions when I haven’t even been seen yet but I am worried sick that this could be a bad outcome. I can’t sleep and it’s all I can think about. I’m trying my best to think that this could all be unrelated but I can’t help but think the worst. Has anyone been in a similar situation and everything ended up ok?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It's always worrying when you find something has changed or appeared on your skin but you've done the right thing in going to see your GP. How did the appointment go?

It's also normal to jump to conclusions as we tend to notice other things about our body when we're worrying that we wouldn't have given a second thought to previously.

To answer your question, yes I have had a mole removed and it just turned out to an atypical one.

Do come back and let us know how you got on at the GPs.

  • I have as well, diagnosed with melanoma in May, had the surgery and the sentinel lymph node biopsy was all clear in August. So please try not to worry

  • Hi catnan so the nurse gave you your slnb results after 4 weeks. I asked cns nurse after 5 weeks and said consultant away so she going to get me an appointment in next 2 weeks I'm just worried now its going to be bad news.

  • Hi Miss Mole, I’m so sorry that you are having to wait so long, I only got mine early as I was worried about my wound and asked for an appointment. There could be many reasons why it’s taking a long time but I hope that you get to hear soon.
