I am being offered a place on a clinical trial which involves apparently a new and encouraging approach to treatment.. The research involves also an outside Company called Iobiotec.

I am having difficulty finding info online about this particular trial so will appreciate any comments. Thanks.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

That's great to hear that you're being offered a place on a clinical trial but it's natural to want to find out as much about it as you can. If you type in the name of the clinical trial in the search facility in the group, you'll be able to see if anyone else has posted about it.

You could also read more about it by looking it up on the Cancer Research website here.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi, is it this KEYNOTE-D18: IO102-IO103 in Combination With Pembrolizumab Versus Pembrolizumab Alone in Advanced Melanoma (IOB-013 / KN-D18) - https://melanomafocus.org/melanoma-trialfinder/find-a-trial/?trial=85? However, it may be good for you to find out more details from your medical team directly and ask them questions which you may wish to prepare in advance.  Hope it will all goes well and perhaps you manage to get in touch with others on that trial to ask for their personal experiences.  Best wishes.

  • Thankyou for this. Hunting around online I had thought it must be this. But when I called in a couple of days ago a member of the research team did not seem to understand my query (which may well be my fault!).

I am due to see the head of the research team this Thursday in order to arrive at a decision unless plans change (the doubt hinges on the result of an MRI brain scan last weekend).  My gut feeling is that my situation is serious so I am minded to consent to taking part in the trial but am assembling questions from online to clarify matters.  My thanks again.

  • Hi there. So I saw the doctor at Guys today and the trial is dropped so now Pembro six weekly instead.  Apparently my blood tests showed some results which made trial unsuitable. I didn't ask why. The recent brain MRI was ok apparently. By the time he had reeled off the possible side effects I had to grit my teeth in order to give consent to going ahead. Otherwise things are fine and hope all is well for you.

  • Good to hear your brain MRI was ok and that you have a plan in place.  Fingers (and everything else) crossed you will not suffer from any side effects.  Best wishes.
