I have had an Axcillary lymph node dissection at the end of July and started pembrolizumab immunotherapy in October. Already I have found another lump In my armpit like a pea, close to the scar line and then another at the bottom of the surgery site. Now waiting for further ultrasound biopsy and see what happens next. Has anyone else experienced similar? Trying to be positive but I think my mask is slipping.
Hi , post surgery often brings up lumps and bumps. I had plenty after my SNLB. Some were due to blocked hair follicles which had got trapped during surgery- still got some odd scarring and "holes"
My mole site (WLE) on elbow had lumps which were undissolving stiches so don't panic straightaway. There could be an benign cause to the lumps so please don't think the worst immediately.
Also I'm presuming the docs found melanoma in one or more of your lymph glands as you say you've just started on Pembro?
That's a positive thing- you've only just started the drug this month and obviously the surgeons take out the sentinel node plus a few others. To be honest there could have been melanoma in other lymph glands and surgeons used to remove all of them and the patient had severe lymphoma for the rest of their life.
Research has shown that there's no need to take out all the nodes, survival rates are not affected by how many nodes are removed so even if the lumps are swollen lymph glands you are being treated right now with the best drugs so there's no reason to remove any more nodes from there I wouldn't have thought.
Sounds like yourvvoncology team are proactive and listen to you.
Please don't panic and as for the mask well mine slips all the time!
Update us with your results hon x
Thank you so much, that is very re-assuring. Yes you’re right it was in 2 of 14 nodes removed. The lump does feel almost identical to my original which is the bit that got me worried. Thankfully they have been so good and so quick. I walked up to the plastic surgery department, bumped into my surgeon who asked how I was an examined me almost on the spot. The biopsy is tomorrow (a week after I reported the lump) so that’s really good.
Yes you’re right about it being a positive that I have already started treatment and that there are lots of other things it could be too. Thanks for your kind works and support. I will stay positive and update when I find out more. You’re a star.
Hey ! I hope you are doing well!
Do you have any updates? I have my sister who is in the same situation. Lumps after her slnb and her doctor says it's from stiches.
Thank you
