Hi all, well the last few months have been a bit of a whirlwind. Had a suspected TIA in March and while going through tests to find out why, a 21mm lung nodule was discovered on my upper left lung. A complete surprise as I have no symptoms. I had 2 CT scans and then a PET scan. The PET scan showed some uptake from the nodule but clear elsewhere. The plan is now not to wait for a biopsy but to go straight for the lobectomy using robotic keyhole surgery and remove 1/4 of the lung. The consultant calculated the risk of it being cancer at 90%. Unfortunately I have to wait for availability of the surgeon and have 6 months clear after the TIA, so looks like September. Still doesn’t feel real as I feel fine.

I was given loads of leaflets when I was booked in for the operation. Most practical exercise is the one that helps you get out of bed. I spent a day in ICU, then out to the ward. Could have gone home in three days but got a little air trapped so delayed for a day. I was so determined not to use a bed pan, that I was up within 6 hours of the op. The same with my heart op, a TAVI, absolutely incredible. 4 hours flat on my back then out of hospital 2 days later. Perhaps the rapidity led to the feelings of disbelief. Whatever happens, talk to everyone.
I am so lucky that I was given a tour, met my nurses, doctors, welfare and physio. Everyone including on the forum has been brilliant. The carers forum is much needed too. Away from us, a private place.
Before the treatment started, I didn't know what to expect or ask. Then you go on the website and read numbers and drug regiments etc and it feels terrifying and alien. Don't be put off. Ask what you need to, even if its what pants to wear.!
Hi' Fitzyg, Yes I had a lump taken out of my right lung last October. I didn't know it was there, they found it in my routine CT scan after having bowel "C" in 03. I was feeling fine before and I'm again feeling fine and normal. It's bloody annoying but we just get on with it. good luck
