I have just been diagnosed with lung cancer. I also have C.O.P.D.which I have had for 20 years and because of this I can’t have any treatment for my lung cancer. I am so very upset Cry not really sure what I can say, just taken one day at a time.

  • Hi Chrissy. Sorry for your news. Is your COPD really bad then as I have COPD & had a lung function test to see how my lungs were. Julie

  • Hi Chrissy, welcome to the group, but so sorry you find yourself here. I am sorry to hear you cannot have treatment due C.O.P.D. I hope you have support at home from family or friends.

Here in the lung group you will meet other people who truly know what you are going through. You can come here and share your thoughts, knowing they will be read by people that understand. Cancer is a very lonely path to walk, so please do come and chat as much as you need. X

  • Hi crissy,

    1. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I've had copd for about 15 years and was diagnosed with lung cancer at the beginning of this year. I've had the operation to remove part of my lung and am now having chemo, followed by radiation and ammunothwrapy next year. I'm sure there must be something that can be done, have the doctors told u outright that nothing can be done? There's plenty of people to speak to surely, don't give up  just  yet
  • I have lung cancer, can't operate (COPD) but am having chemo & immunotherapy - the cancer caused by the radiotherapy I had 25 years ago for breast cancer.  Please talk to your oncologist and ask if there are any treatments or trials that are suitable for your type of lung cancer.  I was told I had the option of nothing being done or having treatment which hopefully will give me more time.  6 years ago I had lung cancer (a different type) on the left lung and had a wedge op - so it was a shock to find I had lung cancer again.

  • Me too! Lung cancer after radiotherapy 23 years ago. Heck of a shock. I have had open surgery and chemo. Complications caused an extended stay in hospital and  painful recovery but I'm now feeling loads better. Will remember your advice if further treatment is necessary. Good luck for the future.

  • Hi Chrissy I also have COPD, I have also had lung cancer, they have taken lower left lobe away, they did keep doing test for me before my op, your lung capacity needs to be at a certain level before they do the op I believe. I would go back and ask, maybe you misheard or see if there is a course you can go on to help with your lung capacity. I went on one provided by NHS, it is like gentle exercises, but it helps your lung capacity, which would then help determine if you could have op.
