  • Hello Frazzled

I am so sorry to hear that you are still waiting. I can understand that it is making you feel panicky and that is not a nice feeling. Rant away if it helps........

I can remember the letters from last year when they started to arrive. So many letters and phone calls and they all made me anxious.

With work sending letters and forms I think the best idea is to speak with your manager if that is possible and just be honest and say that you can only fill the forms out with the information you already have. If you just put lung cancer- awaiting further tests perhaps?

With universal credit- there is always something that seems to be needed. I had to fill out the LCW forms last year. At the time I had just had the surgery and hadn't even had the post op pathology back so didn't even know that I would need the chemotherapy or radiotherapy. So I was just honest- I put womb cancer and how it was affecting me at the time. When I found out about the further treatment I just updated them on my journal and also my Doctor put it on my sick note. It may be worth calling the Support Line to ask one  of the financial advisors for support with the LCW forms if you are not sure.

I also put a note in my Universal Credit online journal to say that I had the diagnosis and surgery and did not yet know the next plan. They were fine with that.

If you are awarded the LCW they may take a few weeks to confirm it but they will back date it for you. You may also want to think about claiming PIP. This again is something they could advise you about on the Support Line.

Another couple of things is you may be entitled to a council tax discount and can claim that from your local council directly. Mine was reduced by a lot. Also free prescriptions- you can pick up a form from your GP and get them to sign it.

I found that financially it was tricky to begin with with all the forms and then information they needed but once they were completed it was fairly straightforward.

I hope you do not have to wait too much longer to find out about any further tests or treatments.

    Jane
