Hi all, thanks for letting me join. My dad is awaiting a diagnosis after a large mass was found in his right lung at the end of January. He presented to the GP with weight loss ~20% of his body weight in 4 months and extreme pain in both his knees making it really difficult for him to walk or bend his knees to get up and down. He could scream in agony he says and he’s not one for showing signs of pain. He hasn’t any breathlessness, cough and hasn’t been bringing anything up so when we’ve been shown the mass and told it’s probably lung cancer we’re shocked but mostly still at a loss as to what to do about his knees! Has anyone else had this? If so, can you tell us your experience and any tips to help him feel better? He says he just wants to get his knees better, if the mass is diagnosed as cancer, he said he’ll fight it much better if he can get mobile again. He’s been prescribed cocodamol and pregablin but all it’s doing is making him drowsy so he’s sleeping through the pain.
Hi NMTeamTojo welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your Dad. It is always a shock when a loved one receives a cancer diagnoses, and if your dad is not showing any symptoms it must be very hard to take the news in.
I really cannot comment on what is causing your dads knees to hurt so much. I would say this needs further investigation and would keep on at the GP until they do some tests. It is easy for a GP to prescribe pain killers, but you need to find out what is causing the pain.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
