Hi my dad has just been diagnosed that he has cancer in his right lung (already had part of his left lung removed 11 years ago). He has emphysema, COPD and pleural effusion. They also suspect cancer in the bladder. We have been advised that my dad can’t have any treatment due to his performance status 3. They also couldn’t biopsy the lung as he is too high risk. My dad can walk about 10 steps before he gets really breathless. Because they couldn’t biopsy, we have no idea how bad the cancer is. I was wondering what to expect so as a family we can be prepared. My dad is 75 can just about walk around at the moment and can drive but can’t do any house hold chores.

  • Hi Maisy54 welcome to the group, but sorry to hear about your Dad.  I am so sorry to hear that he cannot have a biopsy, and I guess it is hard to say what is causing him the most problem with him already having emphysema and COPD.

It is very scary when a family member receives a cancer diagnoses, and the fear of what is ahead, but talking to others who are in a similar situation to yourself does help you through this difficult time. You may not get the answers you are looking for here, as most people in this group are going through treatment themselves. There are 3 different support forums on the community though that you could join.
