My father in law was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer yesterday. I am struggling to support my husband at this time as our son has been treated for leukaemia for the past 5 years. He went into remission in april. We seem to be on the cancer train and can't get off. My son is still having regular checks at the hospital. We are now about to go down a similar path with my father in law.

  • Hi Barsham, welcome to the group, but sorry to hear of your Father in laws diagnoses.  It is great to hear that your son is in remission.  I hope he continues to remain well. I can completely understand how you feel now your Father in law has been diagnosed  and  how it feels being on a journey you can't get off.  Our family cancer journeys spreads over many years, and it has felt like it has been one after the other.  It is very draining, and you do feel what next?

Is there any palliative treatment being offered to your Father in law? I hope he is comfortable, and is taking time to take in what is happening.  I am sure you must all be finding this very over whelming at the moment, especially as you have only just taken a breath with your son's treatment.  If you need to talk the Macmillan support line is available 7 days a week from 8am until 8pm on 0808 808 00 00.

    Take care

  • My father in law has just had 15 sessions of palliative radiotherapy. He returns to the consultant next month to see if there have been any positive changes. My son has just had a bone marrow which showed no signs of leukaemia at this time, so thats goox news.
