Evening all
Still awaiting diagnosis. In some bad hip pain tonight.
I see everywhere discussions of the drug positive ALK.
What if a patient isn't suitable for this treatment? Are the other treatments on offer less efficient, less effective?
Don't know anything about it.
Greengirl
Hi Greengirl, sorry you are in pain with the hip.
I’m not sure what you are reading, but positive Alk is not a drug.
There are lots of different types of treatment for many different types of lung cancer. Try not to worry about any of this. I know it’s hard waiting for the pet scan results, but it looks like you are worrying about things that probably won’t effect you.
Hi
I think you may have confused treatment for anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) with a specific lung cancer drug.
From looking up ALK+, it seems that this is when ALK is found within tumours of other cancers e,g lung cancer. This is quite rare. The combination of ALK+ can cause drug resistance in the treatment of the other cancer. The drugs being talked about are the ones designed to inhibit the ALK+ drug resistance.
Have a chat with your cancer team, who will be able to explain this far better than I can.
Hope this helps a bit.
