My husband as been really poorly for about 6 weeks now, on the 5th Nov he was told he had myeloma a blood cancer. They sent him for further tests and ct scan on 15th Nov. We then got the news it's not myeloma, but they found a large blood clot in each lung, plus a mass in his lower right lobe.
He's since had a pet scan that shows this area as a hot area. So he's now waiting for a biopsy. How long does it usually take to get a biopsy,? It almost 3 weeks since pet scan and we just want to know what we're facing.
Is it normal to take so long between tests? We're really struggling with all this waiting. It's the not knowing that's the worse. We just don't want to keep waiting and with Christmas rapidly approaching we are worried about our family.
Hi redballoon, welcome to the group, but very sorry to hear of your husbands diagnoses. There are always lots of tests at the beginning of this journey, and at times it does feel as if it drags on, whilst you feel like you are in limbo. Normally a biopsy would be done within 2 weeks, and the results about a week later. However I am hearing from people that they are having to wait longer during this pandemic. A friend of mine has suspected mouth cancer, and has had to wait 4 weeks for a biopsy. The waiting is just dreadful. I know you said it’s 3 weeks since the scan, but how long is it since they told your husband he needs a.biopsy? If it is more than 14 days, I would chase it up. Is he on blood thinning injections because of the blood clots? This could also be another reason why it is taking longer. Do you have a lung cancer nurse assigned to your husband yet? If you do then you could call her to ask when you should expect this biopsy to take place. These nurses are fantastic, and will always answer any questions you have.
Take care
Thanks for your reply, we've called them it's hopefully Tuesday and results Thursday. We just need to know, in a way scared of what they may say, in another way would like not to know. But the longer we leave this the worse it will get.
That’s good. Knowing is better than wondering. Good luck, let us know how he gets on.
