My sister (69) has SCLC diagnosed last March 2020 - starting in April she has had systemic chemotherapy - Carboplatin & Etoposide six sessions at three weekly intervals followed by radiation in September, five sessions over five days.

So back to now. Due to intense pain in her back and chest she was admitted to hospital and x ray found fractures to her ribs and lumber vertebrae - she now has morphine patches and slow release morphine tablets but she’s getting weaker and weaker and the immunotherapy that she has been offered she cannot attend due to fatigue. The immunotherapy would be in London and last 8hours for a number of consecutive days, my sister lives two hours away so add to that the all round trip would be 12 hours or so then start again the following day - impossible for her to manage. Her oncologist decided to try more chemo as a recent scan has shown spread to her chest with her liver already affected. Chemo was due to start yesterday but she couldn’t make it as she’s too weak and shaky so they’re doing an mri this Thursday. I’m so scared this will confirm further spread and wonder if anyone has picked up from being this debilitated.

So sorry for the long post, thanks for reading and God bless.

  • Hi FredaH, and welcome to the group, although I’m very sorry to hear about your sister. It is so hard to watch a loved one go through so much with this awful disease. I feel that you may need some support with this, so can I suggest you phone the Macmillan helpline on 0808 808 00 00 they are open 7 days a week from 8am -8pm.  Or you can join the Family and friends - Discussion Forum where there are people in a similar situation to yourself.

I hope your sisters MRI goes well tomorrow, and you get some more positive news.

    Take care
