My husband has an appointment tomorrow to discuss pet scan results ( I think) the appointment was made 3 days before his actual Pet Scan, he had that on Fri 7th at Marsden Sutton.

Hes anxiety is through the roof, as on Thurs 6th Feb he had his yearly Endocrinologist check up & the first thing the doc said was " I see we're looking at cancer". Dont know why he said it, he said it in a matter of fact way.

Both of us feel like we're living in a nightmare, every ache/pain he gets hes thinking cancer. Hes had arthritis in all joints & knee surgery. But now any pain hes thinking the worst.

We both havent eaten well since this hell started.

TBH neither of us have spoken to a doctor ( apart from GP who ordered a routine chest x ray ) its just esculated from scan to scan & only had brief calls over the phone with the St Helier cancer hub 2 week referral, who seem to be making the appointments. I think it was a nurse who told me about the 5cm lung lesion/inflamed lymph node & tests that would follow. The MRI head scan was postponed before he had the pet scan, no idea why & I couldnt find out the reason, not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing that being postponed?

We havent slept or eaten properly since this started. My GP as given me diazepam & sleeping tablets, but they dont seem to be working & my husband is taking mirtazapine, but again hes not sleeping.

We're both a mess.....sorry for long post....just so scared

  • Obviously this is a deeply scary situation for you both and there are these horrible information-voids between appointments/scans. When my treatment started I was put in touch with a Macmillan nurse (other nurses are available) who gave me her card and told me to ring if I needed more information. I had one at Grimsby and one at Castle Hill and they were both loverly. I guess there's different arrangements in different places, there seems to be something called Maggie's at Marsden Sutton, but the first thing to do is ask; if you don't know who to talk to, start with the hospital switchboard. My experience with cancer at both my hospitals was that, once you find the right person, you can get a lot of the information you need. In my case, being squeamish as hell, more than I actually wanted!!

  • Thanks for message. I rung this morning to try & find out what this appointments for & its been requested by a respiratory doctor.

    Thats all I know.

Thanks for your reply much appreciated

  • Tillyboo The Marsden are brilliant they will explain everything to you and what they recommend . You will be under the best people to deal with your husband and everyone is so kind and helpful there let us know how you get on. Most important you both need to eat and rest -your husband so he has the strength to deal with anything coming your way and you to help him with that wishing you some good news

  • There wasnt any pet scan results. They werent ready. Doctor said its lung cancer.

    Started talking about biopsies.

Ordered brain mri & a blood test ( blood test done yesterday)

Having MDT meeting next week & ringing next Weds to discuss results.

I always thought biopsys & pet scan needed to diagnose cancer.

Its 3am I'm awake my husband as packed a bag to go away to coast till next Tues as he cant stand to sit at home.

    Lifes a complete mess TBH
