So after seeing the surgeon on the 29th of Feb, I have now been given my date for surgery for the 6th of March, so only a short few days to go now. It will be a lobectomy using keyhole surgery, and lymp will be taken at the same time for pathology. I have been given so much information by the physio and surgeon as to what to expect and I feel reassured about it all. I would just like to ask if there are any words of wisdom and advice from others who have had this surgery, and if there's any helpful tips about post op that worked well for you ? Could you lay down in bed or better sleeping upright ? Getting dressed/undressed? Showering ? I'm about to get everything I think I will need for the hospital stay which I've been told is between 3 to 5 days, so really anything you think is a practical help would be good to hear about.
I hope you are asleep now and ready for tomorrow sending you hugs and everything will be fine sunshine tomorrow
Hey everyone, I've had surgery, top right lobe has been removed along with the cancer in it. I've been in high dependency since Monday, what was meant to be keyhole ,unfortunately turned into a full opening up ( can't remember name of it ) anyway I got drain out earlier today and that was such a relief, I've been seen twice by physio and they got me walking. I am now allowed to walk without someone with me. I still have a catheter in my back delivering local ansthetic and taking many other oral painkillers, I'm not even asking the names, they hand me them, I take them. Anyway, just wanted to pass onto you all that I'm through surgery and in the recovery journey now. X
Well done hennypenny, kicked cancers arse. Every day will feel a bit better and you can concentrate on getting well again. I think we spend such a lot of time thinking about the surgery it's such a relief when it's done. Onwards and upwards x
