Hello! New to the group from the USA. Just got out of the hospital today, did 3 days of chemo. Feel like hell, look like hell & feel like I smell funny. My house is a mess & I can't seem to really stop crying. I'm only 49. Diagnosis SCLC of course from smoking & I think COVID. Now I'm waiting around for my hair to fall out. I'm a mess & scared to live or die.
Hello redheadjennusa.
So sorry you find yourself joining out group, however I'm very pleased you did cause it sounds like you need a friend right now. We are a great bunch of people who support each other through everything. Firstly don't beat yourself up for the smoking, people get cancer for all sorts of reasons, but if you can give up now would be a good time even if it seems a bit late in the day it can help.
If you tape my avatar you can read my story so far. I lost my hair due to chemotherapy, I have some beautiful hats and scarves to wear while I waited for it to grow back and it has grown back just as nice as it was. Your taste and smell will be affected for now just get on with eating what you can I found food with a sauce easier to eat, ice-cream rice puddings and most soft foods plenty of fluids. Try and avoid to much coffee and alcohol but any fresh fruit drinks smoothies etc to keep you strong. Are you expecting to have more treatment? Don't worry about your house being a mess you will get it sorted at some stage. I see from your post you are from the USA are you living there now or are you in the united kingdom UK?
I know your scared and confused right now give it time to settle down when you have processed what is happening to you. Do you have any idea of your prognosis, cause it sounds like you've not been given much information about you cancer and that can be very scary, have you any idea of what happens for you now? Most importantly do you have friends and relatives around you who can help? The best thing you can do at the moment is talk and maybe you could give Macmillan helpline a call the number can be found on the home page.
Advice for today rest eat and drink and talk to friends and family. Make a plan to deal with this just like you would any other situation, you are in control not the cancer.
Sending you prayers and kind thoughts and if you need a chat about anything please message me
