Hi all
sorry this may be odd but I need some sort of clarification or past experiences. My father in law has sclc and has been told he will have no further treatment. Since having radiotherapy he has gone down hill and the past week has lied on the sofa and slept and stated he has pain in his back and it goes to his legs. They sent him for an X-ray and he got the results whilst there. However he isn’t telling us the full truth all the time and he has come home and stated the doctor said it was “wear and tear” and the family feel guilty but we don’t particularly believe that’s what a doctor would state. Further to this he isn’t following lockdown rules and booked a trip away for 4th July to drive 4 hours south. Personally I feel if he’s been lied sleeping for a week he is not capable of driving 4 hours and if he takes a turn for the worst my mother in law can not drive so they will be stuck 4 hours away. Am I being harsh suggesting they don’t go? I’m currently 3 weeks away from having a baby so we wouldn’t be able to pick them up if they get stuck 4 hours away from home.
sorry for the long post
Hi Amb
He may well not be telling you the full truth. I think you need to see it from his point of view too however. Often patients do not want to worry their families with their woes and as you are heavily pregnant, he may be protecting you even more at the moment. Once baby is here maybe he may open up more (if he isn't already being completely honest).
Maybe you can make it very clear that you cannot help out if he cannot manage and hand him an AA recovery or similar contact number. It is sad to hear that he is not abiding by the rules for lockdown. They vast majority of cancer patients are the most stringent at abiding by them, as they realise the real threat it can be for us.
Good luck with baby
