Hi I was wondering if anyone has information or can help. My dad got diagnosed with lung cancer 2 and half years ago. Since then he received chemo, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. Most was having a hard time on his heart. Recently immunotherapy has stopped due to heart failure and now looking at end of life.
my dad is only 71 and very weak. Losing 5 stone in 2 years. He is extremely depressed and can’t get to grips with his treatment stopping for them to control his heart. His words they making his heart better but the cancer is making him die anyway.
I don’t know what to do next or how to help. Would there be anything I could ask oncology for. Would a lower dose of chemo help over a longer period of time if he agrees to the affects?? totally stuck in a limbo.

  • Hi   I am really sorry to hear that dad’s treatment has been stopped. Cancer treatment is very harsh on the body unfortunately, and with dad’s current situation with his heart I think it’s very unlikely that chemo would be considered again.

Has anyone spoken to you about your local hospice. I know people often panic when they hear the word hospice, as years ago this was where people went to die. But it is very different now. They offer lots of therapies for physical, emotional and spiritual support. You can also meet other people in a similar situation. They support families as well as the patient. I had some physio at my local hospice and it was such a lovely environment to be in. You can speak to your dad GP about a referral.
