Hey,

I dont really know where to start.
My dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lunch cancer last year February (there was a fluid build up under his lungs which the cancer had spread to). He started immunotherapy to later realise it didn’t work on him. At this point he had to see the respiratory team twice to have fluids removed from his lung. They then tried chemo on him, which after his first cycle it didn’t go too well and he ended up in ICU. He’s been out and since been on a clinical trial since after summer last year. His CT before his last one which we got results for today showed his cancer was stable. Today we had the call to say it had spread to his abdomen.

Has anyone experienced the same or similar. What are we to expect, hard for me to pluck out this question but how long do we have?

    Dear Scared786

I am sorry to read this and it must be so hard to comprehend. Your Dad sounds like he has gone for it all along the way which is good to read.

I am sorry that no one can answer the how long question as non of us are medical and it can vary so much between patients.

You could ask his oncology team if you have your father's consent to do so, however often patient do not want to know their prognosis, especially as it often inaccurate.

Does he have a meeting with his team or a telephone consultation coming up? That way he should get given guidance on the what next and referred to any places that can help support him.

Please also remember to get support for you too in this, it is not just the patient that needs it.
