Hi
My husband has prostate cancer but that is under control at the moment. Weve just found out today that he has 2 nodules in his lungs. They suspect are cancerous but cant do a biopsy due to been near the bone. He has been scheduled an op in 2 to 4 weeks. Dr said he has 50% lung function My husband has been a smoker then vaped now stopped. They said without treatment he would about a year.! They couldnt say how long the nodules been there. I wondered what other peoples experience of surgery and recovery time is. My husband is 65
Hi Strawhead
I bet that was a shock to you both, but the positive is that they are offering the treatment. I have had a lobectomy (upper right lobe) by VATs. I was scared of course but it all went to plan and whilst uncomfortable the first few days as long as this is kept on top of it is manageable.
I had the operation on the Tuesday and was let to fly home on the Sunday. I should have gone on the Saturday but the pain medication affected my erm politely bowel...
I ensured I did the breathing exercises and had to be able to walk with the therapist for a while to ensure I was able to go home.
From there I did do little and often exercise to maintain and improve without pushing too much.
They tell you not to lift or drive for at least a month after the surgery and if all of this is adhered too he should recover quite quickly considering when you think what the surgery involves.
Please try not to focus on the time scales, often it's a finger in the wind and proved wrong. I hope your husband proves them wrong and has much longer. Wishing him a good recovery and hoping to see you post that how surprised you are with his recovery soon.
Hi
Thankyou for replying and your post is very positive. I am glad you are on tbe mend.
Yes we were very shocked but we are positive and realistic. He has his pre assessment for his surgery next Thursday so fingers crossed he will be ok for his op. if not they said he can have chemo and radiotherapy altno i dont think the rates for a cure are as good. Something on his throat has shown up on Pet scan so ENT will be in touch but they dont tbink it will affect his op. Everything seems a stress at the moment but onwards and upwards. Good luck to you too.
