Er Really sorry to be posting and asking questions about lung cancer when I have not been diagnosed with lung cancer however I am so worried about how quick things have escalated these last few weeks.
time line of events went home from work with breathing difficulties 15 December. Went to doctors who prescribed antibiotics for chest infection after a couple weeks when back to doctors as no improvement. I was struggling to breath and I was bubbling in throat when lying down. Could also feel my left lung bubbling. Had a slight cough. Doctor gave me more antibiotics but order chest X-ray. Had my X-ray on the 29th jan. I got results to be told I had an infection but it was resolving put me on more antibiotics and ordered another X-ray for 6 weeks time. I had that x ray on the 29th feb. Although I now have no cough I am struggling with using stairs etc as I’m getting out of breath a lot. About 4 days after my last X-ray probably about 4th March I got a phone call of my doctor saying he wanted me to get a CT scan with contrast as the shadow on lung was still present. This was booked for the 9th March. I have had the CT scan now and today had a call with urgent booking team to book me in to see consultant. I am booked in for the 26th March. So few questions I have if anyone can answer.
Would they only book me an appointment with consultant if they have found something on the CT scan? As I’m thinking if it wasn’t serious I would just get appointment from my GP to discuss results...
also I was rushed into hospital last week with breathing difficulties and chest pain. They took lots of blood and sent me home informing me all was negative no infection or blood clots and kidneys fine etc. Would anything had shown up in these normal bloods if I had cancer?
I am 36 years old male smoker on and off for about 20years but been mainly quit smoking for about 2 years but have been vaping.
thank you for reading and if you reply thanks
Hi Fairbairn
Welcome to us.
To answer your questions I will do my best but none of us here are medical.
Consultant, not always but I would have thought they may want further tests too prior to seeing him. Things like a PET, or breathing tests possibly an MRI. It does seem they have contacted you urgently and booked you in for quite soon, so I think they may be suspicious that it might be something that needs looking into further.
Not often that anything is found in bloods to suggest lung cancer (though not always the case), it's why it is one of the hardest to diagnoses without the big boy tests.
I am your age too (I was diagnosed at 34) so I can emphasize with the bewilderment you must be feeling right now.... no one believes it happens to our age group till they see it happening to someone close to them.
I hope all goes well for you and it's all a storm in a teacup. We are all here to help you through the tests and give our best support we can.
Thank you for your reply Gina very helpful, I agree there is a rush around things so chances are they are worried about something will have to keep my fingers crossed and wait I suppose.
