Hello, I am new to this community. My Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 SCLC in July 2019 and had 4 rounds of chemo followed by radio for 2 weeks which ended on 15th Nov 2019. He has had chest and brain scans since and although not cured no further issues were reported. The biggest problem for my Dad now is extreme fatigue which has gradually got worse over time since his treatment ended. He also lost his wife on 6th Jan 2020 and nursed her until the end so he has had quite a tough time to say the least. He is a 75 year old (previously quite active) man who loved to walk his dog and busy himself in the garden and loved just pottering and DIY type activities. His appetite has improved and he eats quite well. Now, even following a good nights sleep he has no energy and needs to nap during the day. Does anyone have any advice or ideas about this terrible fatigue and what if anything can be done to help. Many thanks in advance to you all.
Hi Didsmum
Welcome to us, I am sorry to hear of your Father's diagnosis. It sounds like you and he are going through an exceptionally hard time. So whilst you are asking about your Dad make sure you also seek some help for you too. The helpline here open 8am - 8pm 0808 808 000 is a good place to start.
There is a family and friends group here too, which you may find many other's in the same position as yourself. If you click the green highlighted writing it will take you there.
Treatment is very powerful and can take a while to recuperate from. As well as he is also dealing with the loss and grief of his wife, so it's likely all coming out now.
It is good to hear his appetite is stable again. It might be worth contacting his GP or oncologist or his lung nurse to get his bloods run to ensure he is not lacking in anything following treatment. Many can really fatigue you but can easily be sorted quickly.
I hope that helps a little.
