So clever me thought the appointment today with surgeon was regarding treatment and they would just whip it out - oh no more tests.

Seems the pet scan lighting up the lymph nodes means I do after all need the bronchoscopy - a rigid one? It will be under a general and they have to cut into my neck - anyone had this done? Should be done sometime next week then a two week wait for results, if the cancer has spread it's chemo. At least I wangled getting the pre ops done rather than travel over to hospital (local one doesn't do the surgery stuff) twice in a week as it's a nightmare, and don't start me on the parking!!!!!

Hope everyone is having a good week (well the best possible)

Take care x

    Hi Varmint

I will put poor you (as what I really want to say is probably not forum appropriate) how frustrating. It seems to take forever (and likely is in your case) but when you look back it doesn't seem like that and you are ploughing through the treatment.

I did have a rigid bronchoscopy, not sure why. It was part of my lobectomy procedure. I did wonder why I came round that my voice was silent or squeaks that night. Though could have been the other surgery. I had my top rib removed too, so I didn't notice them cutting into my neck, but they likely used where they took the rib out to gain access.

Other than an on and off voice for a few hours and a sore throat (which I put down to being on the ventilator for so long) it was fine. I only realised I had it done when I was reading the discharge papers.

I hope it goes well next week and you manage to park fine at the other hospital.

  • Oh my goodness how frustrating! At least they are doing it next week so not long to wait. Waiting for the results always seems to be the longest bit.  Wishing you all the best for next week.

  • I had this done a couple of weeks before surgery, if I remember correctly it's called a mediastinoscopy and was to biopsy the lymph nodes down the middle of the chest. I was told if there were cancer cells in these I would probably have chemo before surgery to get these clear, for me that wasn't necessary.

As you say, this is done under a general anaesthetic and I was able to go home a few hours after it was done. There is only a small incision in the neck which you can hardly see when it's healed and there were no long lasting effects. I had a sore throat and a cough for a day or two but these weren't as bad as with a bad cold.

I hope it goes OK for you.

Thank you Derek, think that's the gist of what he was saying, just made it sound like the surgery was off the table if they found anything from biopsy of nodes, all he said was it would be chemo if it had spread.

    Hope you're doing ok x

    Hi

sorry to hear you've got to have more tests. Trust me though after having my bronchoscopy under sedation and being aware , I would far rather have it under a general any day.

Hope all goes well for you and looks like we are both being tested to the hilt for everything, I just keep saying it will make the and plan much better if they have as much info as possible.

    good luck with everything xx
