My husband had his first 3 month scan on 6th June to see how he is responding to treament.

Was told results would be in last Thursday, the day before his 3rd treatment & werent back. Oncologist said she would ring today to update. She rung & said scan results still not in as hes on a STRIKE trial & they have to go there & everything as to be measured.

She said she'd call back today or tomorrow. Didnt call back today so hoping for tomorrow.

Is this normal to wait 4 weeks for a 3 month scan to see if treatments working?

Hes worrying himself sick that somethings wrong, hes been on tender hooks for weeks waiting.

Just wondered if anyone else as been through same wait?

He had a 5cm lung mass 2 lower spine mets & one brain met. Brain met shrunk from 6mm to a dot after 4vwks with one session of cyberknife.

He had a spine CT for radiotherapy a few months ago & all was ok.

Its the full CT with contrast scan on 6th June hes waiting on.

  • Hi  how frustrating that they didn’t have the scan results ready. I think with your husband being on this trial, things will take longer.  It’s frustrating, it just needs one department to communicate with the other! I hope you get to hear soon x

  • This is what the oncologist said its to go through a double process. But all he heard on phone yesterday was "measuring" ie tumour. I'm trying to put his mind at ease, but until he hears it from onco he wont rest. All his bloods etc have been fine even a heart scan is normal. But because of worrying, his appetites dropped, not sleeping, we've been up since 3am!

His only issue is the leg swelling, which onco have run all their tests & not related to cancer. To see GP for higher duretics & meds review. The Marsden have been amazing with tests etc

I'm gonna ring at 12 to see if theres any news, cos if he as to all weekend his anxiety will be off the scale. X

  • I rung at 11.30am as the waiting is really getting to him, anxiety really bad. Nurse was emailing oncologist to see whats going on, exactly 4 wks today.

  • Did anyone get back to you ? X

  • Hi ive had over the years radiotherapy on my entire spine, lung cancer in my right lung twice, which has cost me part off my lung, i had a shadow on my left lung for which i had sabre treatment on, then 2 years ago i had esofigal cancer , i have waited and wsited for results, now apparently i have a growth iny liver so here we go again, my point is through all of this i done my best to keep a positive attuted i know its frustrating but patience is a virtue and no news is good news , leep your chin up

  • Only the lung specialist nurse. She said scan shud have be read yesterday but a backlog, so now looking at Mon with a call Tuesday. She did say if something itregular was seen when scan was done, then he'd have been called in.

She said its to do with measuring the tumour, backlog & annual leave.

So hopefully hear something Tuesday, that'll will be nearly 5 wks. The Marsden are normally very good, so just taking it as what nurse said. I had phone on speaker so my husband could hear & I just said hes got himself a bit worked up anixiety etc being the first post treatment scan, hes just got it into his head its spread or treatments not working.

Hes eaten & we plan on going out tomoz for lunch "being normal" or trying to be x

  • I think its because its his first 3 month scan, was only diagnosed in March. Stage 4 with bone & brain mets. No symptoms & still trying to come to terms with it. I'm sure once hes done a few 3 monthly scans he'll get used to the wait. Its just fear of the unknown, which I'm sure everyone goes through
