my sister in law has stage 4 non small cell lung cancer that has spread to her spine. She has gone from being fairly ok to being in a lot of pain in just a few weeks.Oramorph has been increased but she isnt getting any relief.she is very scared and we are struggling to find reassurance for her.My husband (her brother) is really finding this difficult to cope with and I am concerned about him.Would we be able to speak to a Macmillan nurse about her or would this be classified as patient confidentiality-I really think he would benefit from some advice-can anyone help please

    Hi Blue Magnolia

I am sorry to hear your sister in law is struggling.

You can speak to Macmillan about her and any concerns. If you hasn't given permission they will not be able to discuss her specific case with you as you say. But you are allowed to discuss practical support and relay any concerns you have to them. I hope that makes sense and is helpful.

I am SO sorry for your sister in laws pain.  I’m recovering from Stage 4 Lymphoma, which caused a rather large tumor in my spine (which split open two of my vertebrae)

My back pain is at times intense.  Recently I purchased a cheap TENS unit from Amazon, it was $25, and the pain relief is REAL.  Perhaps this might help relieve some of her back symptoms?

Here’s hoping this will help her deal with the extreme pain.

    Hi Blue Magnolia

Please can I suggest that you check with her team that you can use a TENs machine?

I have been told absolutely no massages as this can aggravate the cancer and encourage it to move about. I have seen some people say that disclaimers say that TENs machine in the fine print are not always recommended for people with cancer. They can be very expensive, so please check before you buy.
