All systems go, lung surgery in next couple of weeks

I’m suddenly being fast tracked for everything after 18 weeks of trying to find what’s going on.

Out of the blue last week I was called in for an urgent appointment with the lung oncologist, preop next week, and the gastroenterologist who’s doing an urgent sigmoidoscopy this afternoon. I have no idea what’s suddenly kicked them into action.

I’m having CXR and bloods done too.

I’ve been told that the last CT at the beginning of June has shown that the lung tumour has tripled in size and needs removal asap.It will be keyhole surgery hopefully.

I need to sort out everything at home, I have no support or help so will need a cleaner etc.

  • Hello again ,

I'm pleased that you have made progress at long last and your surgery is now imminent.

I wish you all the very best for a successful procedure.

  • Glad to hear things are finally moving for you. My tumour which was already large grew whilst I was receiving neoadjuvant chemo and immunotherapy. I ended up having open back surgery rather than kehole but by that stage I didn’t care. My recovery has been smoother than I expected.

Hope all goes well with the surgery. If you can, get a cleaner in before you go into hospital and when you come home it will be lovely and clean.

  • That’s good to hear, thank you.

I will definitely look at getting a clearer in before I go into hospital.

  • Glad finally things are moving quickly, I hope all goes well with your op but may i suggest you look into help as to start you will have pain and discomfort, even doing the basics. Ask t doctors surgery or the Macmillan nurses in your area.

  • At last! Wishing you all best

a cleaner is a good idea, and maybe batch cook some meals now to have ready in your freezer ?

  • Hi, wishing you all the best for your surgery. I havent had surgery yet, but am.wondering if maybe having a carer, short term, to come and help with the basics, when you first come home?

  • I have a husband at home but he isn’t supportive, in fact he’s almost dismissive. It’s very difficult, he doesn't ‘do’ illness, cooking, housework etc

I’m hoping he’ll make me drinks but it’s unlikely he’ll do much else. I have bought a vacuum flask and cool cup.

I do have supportive friends but they have their own lives.

I did think about having someone come in but my experience of carers for my parents doesn’t enthuse me.

i have arranged a cleaner to come weekly, a cleaning agency to blitz the house before I come home and I can get a delivery of ready meals etc.

The dog walker is organised so that’s one less worry.

    Getting scary….

  • Bless you! Its a horrible time, but it will be over for you soon x

  • I’ve just opened a letter from the hospital haematology department saying they have made a phone consultation appointment for me early September. Dear lord, what next? Obviously something’s shown up in the bloods taken yesterday I assume.
    Very strange.

  • Oh crikey, its never ending.  I was waiting for my pre op appointment,  to be told i now have to have a specialist scan in Birmingham.  Its so worrying x
