52 year old woman feeling like a wimp.
Had video assisted left upper lobe trisegmentectomy with cryogenics in September 25 for Stage 2a non-small cell lung cancer.
Was very lucky to not need adjuvant treatment.
Did all my prehab and rehab, healthy eating, pacing etc.
I've been positive and felt very lucky from screening onwards because I was a very heavy smoker till I gave up 17 years ago.
My optimism is starting to flag now because I'm still exhausted. Tired but wired with some sleep difficulties. My previously well controlled IBS flared after surgery and usual measures aren't really helping.
I'm mostly ok in the morning and when I'm doing stuff, but I gradually get slower and slower as the day goes on and by mid afternoon I have just shut down.
My 6 month scan was clear. My bloods show very mild anaemia and low sodium but that's all
All I seem to see online is people recovered in less than 6 months.
I'm back at work, but struggling to complete about 1/4 of my usual workload in a sedentary role.
Medics just say everyone is different.
Did anyone else take a while to bounce back?
Apologies - I DO know how lucky I am and that other people have had/are having a much tougher time.
D xx
Hello PsyDi,
I'm very sorry to hear that you're still struggling something like 9 months after surgery, especially as no additional treatment was required. My recovery from a compete right pneumonectomy at age 58 was around 6 months and I had chemo after surgery.
Did you see a physio before you were discharged to give advice on exercises etc. to do?
When you say medics, is this your hospital team or your GP? All I can think of at the moment is that I'd definitely involve your hospital medics if you haven't already done this. Then also see your GP to see if they can suggest something for you.
Let's see if anyone else comes along who has had a similarly longer recovery period.
