My husband had his 1st chemo 3 weeks ago and was due another session today. But when we arrived for the appointment we were told that it wouldn't be going ahead as his haemoglobin was too low and he needs a transfusion. The transfusion is scheduled for tomorrow. The next chemo is now in three weeks which is the usual schedule. My husband is very upset and we are both hoping that this delay won't affect his prognosis as he is stage 4. Hoping that someone has some positivity or experience of this.
Hi Jules 32
Sorry to hear this news, but it is important for your husbands bloods to be right before any chemo session. People often find stops and starts in their treatment because of this. I know it is frustrating, but better to wait then have the chemo now which would make him very ill.
It is good that he has had one session already, you will be surprised how much effect that can have, and a break wont effect his treatment going forward.
Hi Jules 32
My husband has Stage 4 lung cancer and stage 4 prostate cancer.
He has had to have interruptions to treatment for blood transfusions and fluids. His treatments continued with no problems after this and he is still here nearly three years later.
Good luck and good wishes to you both.
Liz
