Pembrolizumab, Pemetrexed and carboplatin treatment

I have stage IV lung cancer (bone mets, lymph nodes and brain mets which have been treated with gamma knife surgery in February). I started the above treatment in March and have had 4 cycles. My lung and spine tumours have shrank and there is reduced activity in my lymph nodes. Moving forward the Carboplatin will be dropped, so it will just be pemetrexed and pembrolizumab. Anyone who's had this treatment regime...when the Carboplatin was dropped did you still see a positive response to treatment? I'm worried that either the tumours will grow again or more metastases appear. Also did your treatment side effects change once the Carboplatin was dropped? I've had low neutrophils, feel nauseous/lose my appetite and feel exhausted for a few days after and I'm also anaemic. My consultant has implied that there may be a reduction in side effects...

  • Hello ,

I'm sorry you haven't received any replies to your questions yet.

I don't have any personal experience of your treatment as I just had a straight forward Cisplatin and Vinorelbine combination over 4 cycles.

However, I would think that by dropping Carboplatin your side effects should reduce and by maintaining  Pemetrexed and Pembrolizumab there will continue to be a positive response to treatment as your consultant says.

I hope someone on here can give you a better response based on their own experience and my reply will put your post back at the top.

You could also try posting your questions on the chemotherapy forum which might elicit a reply. The link to this is Chemotherapy forum

I wish you all the best as you continue treatment.

    Derek.
