I am trying to find out about side effects of this treatment and others experience
Hi katiec60
As with all types of radiotherapy, the main side effect is fatigue/tiredness.
The positives of radiotherapy is that the benefits are cumulative and continue for sometime after the treatment ends, which is why there is often a perceived delay in having the post treatment CT Scan.
The negatives are that the side effects can also be cumulative, so any tiredness/fatigue may also continue for some time after the treatment ends.
Another potential side effect is often referred to as 'internal sunburn', and depends where the tumour is located in relation to the esophagus. The radiotherapy can cause the esophagus to become sore, which can make eating painful. If this happens then let your radiotherapy team know so that pain relief can be provided.
Of course everyone reacts differently, so these are only potential side effects.
I hope this helps a little bit.

Thank you Kegsy , I have a fair bit of muscle ache in the treated area and need to suck an indigestion tablet now and then but so far am coping with the side effects etc Except the disturbed sleep patterns and tiredness. It could be much worse I am sure so onwards and upwards. Its the thought of surgery that worries me. as recovery can take some weeks especially in my age era. x
