Hi,

I'm looking for some suggestion regarding my close relative currently not in UK. He’s 44 years old, diagnosed with Metastatic Non-small cell carcinoma, Adenocarcinoma with foci of squamous diff in March 2023.

The treatment started with 1 session of Chemotherapy (INJ. PEMETREXED + INJ. CARBOPLATIN) and then followed by Tab. Osimertinib (Tagresso) 80mg I Daily Since April 2023.
However, the next PET scan done in June has showed mixed response. While the primary lung mass is marginally increased (SUV reduced) and there are few new lesions, some of the lymph nodes have reduced in size and are now with 0 SUV.

The current oncologist believes this as progression and would like to stop Tab. Osimertinib (Tagresso) and continue with Chemotherapy and has suggested Liquid biopsy to identify new mutations. He’s now planned for chemotherapy with INJ. PEMETREXED + INJ. CARBOPLATIN + INJ. BEVACIZUMAB + INJ. ZOBONE

Has anyone gone through or know of cases where there has been progression while on Tab. Osimertinib (Tagresso)?
Also, Could someone recommend any private Lung cancer specialist in UK for consultation as he won’t be eligible for 1 through NHS?

Many thanks.

  • Progression can happen on any treatment.  A biopsy to discover any new mutations is a great idea as a lot of therapies only work on specific mutations.  It sounds like the current oncologist is following the correct path.

  • Dr Mansy has been very good for my husband privately and is based at James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough.  The immunotherapy is working fantastic so far, no side affects.

  • Hi

The Christie hospital in Manchester is a specialist cancer hospital, and has private care facilities.  The Christie also has  Cancer Research facility on site, also work closely with Manchester University and is involved in many local and national trials.

  • Thank you so much for the suggestions. Will try to get in touch with the hospitals to understand the process.
