Hi everyone I finished my radiotherapy for primary lung cancer the end of March I’ve getting an appointment today for a CT Thorax & abdo & pelvis with contrast why are they scanning my abdo & pelvis and what is it? I expected a lung scan to see if cancer has gone but I haven’t excepted abdo & pelvis scan and what are they? Will this have anything to do with the bottom of my back? As I’ve always got pain in the bottom of my back I’ve had it a very long time now but I’ve just adapted to it because it’s gone on that long but some days the pain is unbearable love Yvonne
Hu Yvonne
The chest & abdomen CT scan is the norm as it covers all the major organs with the exception of the brain. I always have this for my routine lung cancer CT scans; I think it is to both check up on the lung cancer situation and to have early sight of any sign of potential spread of the cancer to any other organs. It is the lung cancer version of taking your car in for its MOT.
If there are any issues, either cancer related or non-cancer related, they will let you and/or GP know so that it can be dealt with. Please do not worry about it as you will be having lots of these routine scans in the years to come.
Hope this helps a bit.
