I was diagnosed with lung cancer in left lung following a scan in March. The scan also showed other suspicious areas. As a result I had a biopsy on the new areas but it proved to be a false alarm .  As a result of the original diagnosis I had 5 doses of radiotherapy during May. I was told that there would be after effects and various booklets suggested fatigue and some  pain which in some cases might not even start until a few months after the radiotherapy was finished .
Well it’s now December and I have pain from my chest round under my arm to my shoulder blade ever since May. Doctor tells me that this is probably nerve damage and cannot say how long it may last  !!
Had anyone else been in this situation where pain has lasted over six months .

Thankfully the radiotherapy seems to have worked but I am now taking an opioid Dyhydrocodeine fit the pain , which can be addictive. I can’t take specialist nerve analgesics because of my heart condition .

Would be interested if anyone else had had pain for this long

Thanks.

  • Hi Pfil, I had radiotherapy on my right lung at the start of my journey 8 years ago. I did struggle with my right arm for a few months after, it was painful to lift above my head, and i struggled carrying things on that side. I too was on Dihydrocodeine, although not for long as I have side effects with opioids. Thinking back I think it took a good year before I was fully over the side effects of the radiotherapy, but I did get a very good result from it.

I hope this improves soon for you, I know how frustrating it must be x
