Hello, my husband has been diagnosed with incurable lung cancer. We are waiting for an oncology appointment for treatment options but have to wait for lab results on possible mutations. It had been almost 2 weeks since diagnosis and we are still waiting for the lab results, feels like we are in limbo. Any advice on how long we can expect to wait would be much appreciated.
Hi,
Sorry to hear but so important to wait for. One of my biopsies took a bit over 2 weeks, and one over 3 w - lab problems. This was in August this year. I know it's hard to wait, but the treatment is so specific they need to know exactly what they're dealing with. Mutations really need to be detected. I'm sure you'll get results next week, and get the best possible treatment.
My partner was in your shoes, calming me down as I just wanted the results. Trust in your oncologist and get the help you can.
Much strength and warmest wishes to you both.
I had to wait a month for an oncologist appointment after being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. It felt I was sitting on a time bomb. But it was essential to have the biopsy as it meant the oncologist was able to get treatment organised. In my case I was able to have targeted therapy and the prescription was ready for collection. Your husband should be allocated a specialist lung cancer nurse. My nurse had already made contact with me and had organised various things for me. Plus she was able to advise and explain things to me. She also called me two days before the first appointment and told me the biopsy result and is able to answer any questions I may have between oncologist appointments. These nurses are gold dust! You could see if your husband's hospital has similar arrangements and find out if one has been allocated. I know how stressful this time can be. There are some very good treatments for lung cancer today. Good luck and my best wishes to you both.
