Treatment delayed due to slight infection, how common is this?

Morning all,

My Dad has SCLC, he was due his third cycle tomorrow but has had a dry cough for just over a week. He was due to have his blood tests today ready for tomorrow but has ended up being admitted tonight due to needing some IV antibiotics. His treatment tomorrow will now be delayed!! I know this is probably a common thing but is it usually delayed by weeks, days etc? Has anyone experienced this before?

He will see his Oncologist later as he is in clinic at the hospital today so we will know more but I’m gutted his 3rd treatment has been delayed.

Thanks

Lucie x

  • Hi Lucie. Oh your poor Dad, he really is having a rough time isn't he. As you know I am on a different treatment to your Dad, so hopefully someone else will be able to share their experience with you, just wanted to pop along and send you a hug. x

  • Hi Lucie - Your poor Dad, fingers crossed - Sorry I haven't came across this to help but sending you both a huge hug xx

  • Hi all,

Well, it’s been a hectic few days. My Dad does have a slight infection so the treatment couldn’t go ahead today, so antibiotics and then plan to restart on Tuesday. On a positive note, he had a scan today of his chest and with his only 2 cycles, his tumour has shrunk from 3.5cm to 1.7cm! His second dose of chemo was only half his first dose as his Liver was still a bit all over the place but his Oncologist said today his liver function is practically back to normal! I can’t believe it!

Had my Dad not have been stubborn this week and refused to go A&E, he would have had treatment today but lesson learnt, he seems to have to learn the hard way at the moment, bless him!

  • Hi All,

I thought I replied on this post, must be lack of sleep!

So, his third treatment has been delayed a week due to slight infection in his lung. The positive from this is that he has had a chest scan which shows a shrinkage in his lung, the tumour starting off at 3.5cm and is now 1.7cm! His liver blood tests are brilliant and his Oncologist said his liver is almost back to normal function!! His second cycle of chemo was only half the first dose too as they had to see if his liver could take it, so after 1 and a half doses of treatment, I think that’s amazing!! His 3rd cycle is scheduled for Tuesday!

He’s being very stubborn at the moment, so if he’d gone to A&E last week like we kept trying to, the delay would not have happened

Anyway, I’ll take some positive from that xx

  • Hi Lucie, I think there is something wrong with the website, I replied to you yesterday.

  • At least it isn’t me going insane Grinning must be the website as your reply hasn’t come through and mine is now on here twice. X

  • Hi Lucie, that is fantastic news, to get 50% shrinkage at this stage is wonderful, and great to hear his liver is nearly back to normal function too! You must be doing a little dance right now Grinning

Hope all is well for next Tuesday x

  • Hi Chelle,

It’s brilliant news, trying not to get too ahead of myself but we were all shocked and everyone except my Dad seems to have taken a positive from it, waiting for his spark to return.

    Take care of yourself
