Hi everyone,

Hope your all keeping aswell as can be

Just a quick question to the guys & girls who’ve had radiotherapy really.. how long did your side effects last? And also did it affect your mobility/bones?

My mum was fine on her feet albeit she got breathless after walking abit but she was steady and walked.. but since having radiotherapy it’s asthough she’s lost her balance her confidence in herself going up and down the stairs her legs hurt.. again this only really started after radiotherapy :S she’s had the sore swollen throat which is now easing slightly, she’s also had a sore blistered mouth which weve got a rinse for but I’m just wondering whether the unsteadiness is a side effect? She’s going to mention it to her consultant when she sees them but just thought I’d see if anyone had any pearls of wisdom on here as many of you usually do!

Thanks in advance & keep safe x

  • Hi ManchesterLady88x I don't remember being unsteady on my feet after radiotherapy. I know I was extremely tired, an exhaustion that I have never felt before, but that might of been the pain meds I was on as well. I wouldn't wait until your mum see's the consultant, I would phone the lung nurse and discuss this with her. x

Her bone cancer is in the hip I’ve asked her about whether she gets pins & needles ect her feet and lower legs are always cold, I read it can cause nerve damage think it said rarely radiotherapy can cause peripheral neuropathy but she’s like Bambi on ice since having the treatment x

  • When does she see her consultant again?

She’s spoke to her lung nurse and clinical specialist this afternoon she had a consultation and bloods due today ready for chemo next week (finally got those dates through!!).. they said it could more than likely be a side effect of the treatment.. my mums also noticed the tumour which was on her hip (it was big and visible) has shrunk in size considerably but won’t know exactly how much yet until after her scan next week and getting those results id presume.. (I’ll take that as a good sign? And a small win?!)
