May be heading for a Pneumonectomy, total left lung.
What are the survival rate statistics?
I think it's impossible to say as there are so many variables at play, however although there is obvious risk your chance of surviving is very much higher than not. Your surgeon should go through all the risks with you but please don't let that put you off.
I remember very clearly thinking at the time that the operation was certainly much better than the alternative. That was in May 2014 when my diagnosis was confirmed, it worked (so far) and I will always be grateful for being offered the chance. I had my right lung removed, recovery was easier and quicker than I expected and I'm still fine all this time after. I had never been in hospital before then, was a total coward when it came to hospitals and was petrified.
I hope you get on as well as I did. Good luck.
Derek.
