Hi

i was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma a year ago, it’s a benign brain tumour that is attached to hearing & balance in the brain. Recently I have started with bad tinnitus to affected ear, I’m losing my hearing to that side as well.

I am having headaches, dizziness & nausea which is causing me distress & generally feeling unwell/low in mood.

I wanted to reach out to others who may be suffering similar & May have ideas of what may help with symptoms

  • Hi ,

My name is Matthew, and I’m from Macmillan’s Online Community Team. I’d like to wish you a very warm welcome to the Online Community, and to say thank you for sharing a little bit about what brought you to the site. Hopefully other members of the Community will be along to share their own thoughts and experiences with you here soon. We hope you will find the Online Community a warm and supportive place to be.

I am sorry to read about the acoustic neuroma diagnosis you received last year. I am also sorry to see that some symptoms have become more apparent recently. You might like to keep your GP or specialist nurse updated about this development. It can be helpful to keep them informed so that they can make sure you’re still getting the right care and support. If you’re not sure who to speak to, you can contact the NHS 111 service for advice.

I know you also mentioned that the headaches, dizziness, and nausea are causing you to feel more generally unwell and distressed. Coping with physical symptoms can be very challenging, so it is natural that this may also impact your emotional wellbeing, too.

As well as receiving peer support from the Online Community, you can get advice on symptom management over in our Ask a Nurse forum. To ask a question, just start a new discussion thread in the Ask a Nurse forum group, and a Macmillan professional will aim to respond within 1 to 3 working days.

Lastly, whether you’re feeling distressed, in a low mood, or you just need to talk things over, our Macmillan Support Line teams are also here to support you confidentially. Sometimes it can just help to talk things through with someone who’s there to listen. They’re available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat.

I hope you will find the Online Community supportive and helpful. For tips on using the site, please check out our Help Pages. To reach the Online Community Team directly, you can email us at community@macmillan.org.uk, or you can send a private message to the Moderator account.

Remember, Macmillan is here for you, and you are not alone!

    All the best,
    Matthew
