Secondary liver cancer diagnosis

Hi my name is Dave and I am 44 years old. I am a husband and father of 3 girls.

I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer last January. I had my tumour removed by robotic surgery but could not have chemotherapy afterwards because my blood results indicated that I might have a genetic condition called Lynch Syndrome.

I didn’t feel right for months after my surgery and I mentioned this to my specialist nurse a couple of times but my symptoms were dismissed. I eventually went to see my GP and asked if I could have some tests to check if my tumour had returned because I wasn’t feeling right.

I had a CT, MRI and PET scan aswell as a liver biopsy which unfortunately showed large mass in my abdomen and one in my liver and I was told I have secondary liver cancer. In addition to this, it was confirmed that I had Lynch Syndrome. Lynch Syndrome basically means I have a higher chance of getting certain cancers, especially colon.

I was then started on a course of immunotherapy which I am still having now. Chemotherapy isn't an option for me as it doesn't work in people with Lynch syndrome.

I am due to have my second CT scan tomorrow to see if the immunotherapy is working. The first one I had after starting immunotherapy showed that my tumour had grown.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

How did the CT scan go? Hopefully, this time it'll show a reduction or no growth of your tumour.

You might not know, but there is a forum for Lynch syndrome that you might want to take a look at. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
