Small Cell Lung cancer now in Liver

Hello everyone, new here to this forum and looking for advice. My Mum was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer just over 3 years ago. We found out on Wednesday that it has now spread to her liver and she has only been given months to live now. Although we knew the day would come, it is still a huge shock and it's taking time to process it and come to terms with it. The doctor told us that she would be now be discharged from Oncology but we weren't told much about the next steps. I have been looking at a lot online to try and get things straight in my head. My main query is whether we are to wait for someone to contact us regarding palliative care or should we be actively doing something, as in contacting health care professionals etc. My Mum has decided that she wants to stay at home, so we don't need any hospice options. I know it's only been a few days, but I feel like the clock is ticking and I want to take as much of the stress away for my Mum and Dad. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've recently discovered that your mum's cancer has spread and it's natural to have lots of questions regarding what happens next.

I can see that you've also posted this in the ask an information and support advisor section of the online community and wondered if you'd seen that you've had a reply. If not clicking here will take you directly to it.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support group, so I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group. The group has been set up for anyone who has someone with an incurable diagnosis to discuss their emotions as well as practical issues about palliative care.

If you'd like to join the group, just click on the link that I've created which will take you straight there. You can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversation by clicking on 'reply'.

    Sending a big (((hug)))
