Hi All
first posting in the group.
I am in the strange position that my primary remains undiagnosed. I underwent emergency surgery in February for a blockage in my bowel but it appears that it may in fact be ovarian. My current regime of chemotherapy is shrinking the tumour on the outside of my bowel but not shrinking my liver secondaries. I am about to start my 4th session of chemotherapy on Monday. Outcome of my MDT was chemotherapy and nothing else. I have 7 small tumours in my liver. I am wondering if anyone else is in this position? Do I seek a second opinion with regard to the liver secondaries with the hope that they may offer surgery or RFA.
Would appreciate any help/advice.
thanks so much
niki
Hi Niki67
Can I just ask if the cell type is showing ovarian ?
We found a consultation helpful with a liver surgeon at a centre of excellence. My mum’s surgery was over a decade ago and her team did not think surgery was a good clinical pathway . However the liver surgeon thought there was a window of opportunity. I would say bowel cancer is a bit more favourable for liver resections and I am not at all up on criteria for other primary cancers . But it helped hearing their criteria and views . I think as long as you keep open minded as it may confirm you are on the right pathway for treatment but it may also open up other approaches. You are also entitled to a second opinion with another oncologist which is also an option . However for the sake of objectivity I personally would go out with your own health authority and have a chat on the forum to see who has a progressive oncologist.
Just my own views from my mum’s experience . But our helpline staff would be happy to chat on 0808 808 0000

That’s great you have a cell type to work with .
Certainly look into the liver surgeons opinion . My approach now is surgeons in each specialist field know best what they can achieve in the same way oncologist know their field best .
Location comes into play with the liver. My mum had two liver resections the second was the largest . They removed 73% of her liver but had segments one to three still disease free and that regenerated .
Take special care ,
