Immunotherapy, side-effects, and depression - seeing a counsellor was very helpful

Hello,

I am Chedly, I am 78 and was diagnosed with liver cancer in November 2022 at Churchill Hospital Oxford.

I am told it is 9cm. A biopsy and subsequent scans with contrast confirmed it.

In March 2023 I had SERT radiotherapy, but later I was told it did not work, so on June 23, I started Immunotherapy which seems to be working as I was told I am stable now and I will continue with the treatment for another year. I am finding that controlling the side effects (mainly fatigue and some pain) is difficult. I had deep depression and saw a counsellor ( a McMillan specialist) for 10 sessions, so I'm better and recommend them very highly about depression & anxiety support.

I am joining this forum in the hope of talking to others and listening to their experience as we go on this 'new journey' in life

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

That's great to read that your cancer is stable and that you found counselling useful.

I'm not a member of this forum but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thank you so much for your kind words.

I really could not navigate this site. I am not savvy on the internet. I want to be more active but at the moment, I have no idea. Maybe my daughter will help??

I will write to you again, many thanks.

Although I have no prognosis, I just live day-to-day, I am still hopeful never hopeless, and still write birthday cards, Christmas cards etc...But to know I have an 8/9 cm lesion in my liver can dip my mood dramatically at times.
