I have read pretty much the same post from several members on here. Sharp pains, a visit to A&E expecting it to be gallstones or indigestion only to be told that it is lung and liver cancer with multiple other sites. My mum is 81, fit and active and now, facing the worst. It's been 9 days since we were told and we have had no further information or tests, although they were promised and she was asked to stay in hospital until they did them. When we asked about surgery we were told that they would have to operate from her hip to her shoulder as it has spread so much. They have discharged her now as the tests did not happen and we await the 'big meeting' that apparently happens each week. I am expecting to hear palliative care only but fingers crossed. Googling prognosis isn't helping but I am guessing less than 6 months. Such an awful shock.
Hi briarwood and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
The "big meeting" you mention is a MDT (multi-disciplinary team) meeting, which is held in hospitals once a week, and is when all the professionals who might be involved in your mum's care, ie oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, cancer nurse specialists, etc discuss the best course of action.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
