Liver cancer - what to expect

Hi All, My partner was diagnosed with bowel cancer, then scans showed it had spread to liver (badly) and a couple of spots on his lungs. He is having trouble sleeping... has been prescribed tablets but they don't seem to help...He was offered palliative chemotherapy but has chosen not to go ahead as there seemed very little gain for him timewise.  I'm also worried about what to expect... how he will be/feel over the next few months... feeling completely devastated and helpless. I want to help him but don't know how... any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated thank you so much x

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is an informative and supportive place to be.

I noticed that you had posted this in the ask a nurse section of the online community as well and wondered if you'd seen that you'd had a very comprehensive reply from one of the nurses? If not clicking here will take you straight to it.

I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also join and post in the bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer groups as that way you'll connect with others who have the same type of cancer as your partner. This group is for primary liver cancer so the treatments, etc will be different.

If you'd like to join these other groups clicking on the links I've created will take you straight there where you can then join and start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

When you feel ready, it would be great if you could pop something about your partner's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
