Hi Everyone,
My Dad has recently been diagnosed. He had a hepatic bleed from pressure on the portal vein and was admitted to hospital, was in ICU for a fortnight and then sent home, was admitted again with Renal Failure and has been in now for about a month. He had a liver scan privately in October and it was clear. They've given him info today that he has Liver Cancer and has 3-6 months.
I'm not sure though if they've really done everything they need to to determine this? They are making this diagnosis on scans and CT alone.
He has haemachromatosis which has left him with cirrhosis. We are shattered, but determined. Any advice, any info any recommendations you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with liver cancer. Although I had a different type of cancer I know what a difficult time this will be for you and your family.
As I don't have experience with how liver cancer is diagnosed I have found this information from Macmillan about diagnosis of liver cancer which you could have a look at.
If you wanted more information on what tests, etc your dad's consultant has based the diagnosis on you could speak to your dad's cancer nurse specialist (CNS). If he hasn't been assigned one yet then give the consultant's secretary a call and explain that you'd like to speak to the consultant to ask some questions. Of course, this can only be done if your dad gives his permission to his medical team for his diagnosis and treatment to be discussed with you.

Hi Shannon,
So sorry to hear about your Pops, my Mum is in the same boat and is at the end stage. She to has haemachromatosis which has given her cirrhosis, diabetes and terminal liver cancer with mets in her lungs. She is 77 and is has slowly stopped eating, sleeps a lot and is slightly jaundiced. I live 5 hours away from her and try to get to see her at every opportunity. I’m shattered by all of this. Be strong and stay determined. All the very best,
Jon
