Hi, I haven’t been officially diagnosed yet I don’t think?!

went to gp last April with quite severe pain in right upper abdomen and shoulder. Been a long time, due to covid, to get all of the tests needed. Had ultrasound, 2 x ct and mri.

Found lesion in liver but MDT think it’s secondary with suspected primary melanoma. Had full skin check. And thorax ct scan and all is fine.

have a guided ultrasound next Friday to get a cell biopsy and hoping that will make things a bit clearer.

am taking tramadol and pregabalin for pain but it’s not really touching it.

am really scared to find out but it’s been so long waiting I just need to know now.

im still being looked after by dermatology until I’m passed over to another team. My feeling at the moment is that primary liver would be better right??? Or if it’s secondary will they keep looking for the primary?? Any help or advice appreciated - for effective pain relief or primary/secondary situation

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

Waiting for a diagnosis is an extremely stressful time and most people find that once they know what they're dealing with they feel less scared.

Can I ask if your team have found melanoma cells in your liver and this is why they think the liver is a secondary to a melanoma primary? One of my friends in the melanoma group was diagnosed with melanoma as her primary although no skin lesion was ever found. It was thought that her body had dealt with the lesion on her skin but couldn't get rid of the secondary tumour.

You might like to join us over in the melanoma group where you can chat to others who have a primary melanoma with secondaries elsewhere. If you'd like to do this clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can then join and post in the same way as you did here. On the other hand I can understand if you want to wait until you know exactly what you're dealing with before joining.

Whichever you decide to do, do come back and let me know how the biopsy goes on Friday.

Hi, thank you so much for replying and welcoming me.

In answer to your question, as far as I am aware my team hasn’t found melanoma in my liver. I have previously had a malignant melanoma and think they assumed it would be that. I was referred to dermWearyology for a full skin check and they found nothing obvious. I’m hoping that the liver cell biopsy will tell us more. I didn’t realise that they could find melanoma cells in my liver so thank you thaWearyis really helpful.  I’m assuming that I will have another 2 week wait after the biopsy WearyWeary to find out. Once I know I will definitely join the melanoma group if that is what they find.

thank you again for responding xx

  • Hi

Ah, I didn't know you'd had melanoma before. That might explain why the MDT think the lesion on your liver might be a secondary. I presume that the biopsy you're having on Friday is to find out.

Edit - speak to your team about the pain you're in as they may want to increase your pain meds.
