Hi, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 primary liver cancer during lockdown. The hospital have been fantastic with speed id diagnosis and treatment plan. He started taking levanatib but after 3 weeks has had to stop due to a mouth/throat infection. Registrar can’t say definitively if it’s caused by steroids or the levanatib, so it’s been put on hold while we wait for improvements. I realise side effects are common, is anyone else familiar with levanatib treatment or can offer any insight on how to deal with the oral thrush issue. Dads lost so much weight it’s not only effecting energy levels but his mental well being as he has gone from being very active to barely able to walk and food and drink are becoming more of an issue.

Hello Skatey, I don't know anything about levanatib (yet) but thrush is a fungal infection and he should have been given an antifungal treatment for it.  It looks like white patches on tongue and side of mouth.  Of course it could be a different type of inflamation/infection. Best ask his doctor.

Sorry he's struggling hope he can get back on the drug soon.

I had levantanib and had really sore mouth and fingertips. I had ulcers all around the edge of my tongue. It wasn't thrush. I bought igloo pastilles and put 2 or 3 around my tongue. It helped temporarily. I tried bonjela and difflam mouthwash. I had to stop taking the tablets while it cleared up then restarted on the lowest dose which was all my body could tolerate x

Hi kittykris, did you find anything that helped clear up your throat issues? Dads been on fluxocole or something and difflam mouthwash but with little improvement. Any other suggestions other than the igloo pastilles?
